The Mevlevi Order or the Mevleviye are a Sufi order founded by the followers of Mawlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī in 1273 in Konya, (in Turkey at present). They are also known as the Whirling Dervishes due to their famous practice of whirling as a form of dhikr.
Rumi’s visions, words, and life teach us how to reach inner peace and happiness so we can finally stop the continual stream of hostility and hatred and achieve true global peace and harmony.
In other beautiful verses in Mathnavi, Rumi describes in detail the universal message of love. For example, he states:
- Love’s nationality is separate from all other religions,
- The lover’s religion and nationality is the Beloved (God).
- The lover’s cause is separate from all other causes
- Love is the astrolabe of God’s mysteries.
